Ms. McBride joined the Ladies in White in 1963 on a part-time basis but that volunteer job ended up becoming full-time as she also trained to be an EMT. Her husband first volunteered as well but ended up becoming a paid fire fighter.

Jean was very busy and estimated the Ladies in White received at least 555 calls a year. In 1953 they received a ’53 Pontiac as their rescue car (ambulance) which they named, “Ol’ Rescue.”

The Ladies in White service ran from 1942-1986. For more information on the Ladies in White, please visit: http://www.citrusheights.net/532/Ladies-Auxiliary-Ladies-in-White
