Did you know that the “Citrus Heights” name is not based on any local citrus groves?

Instead it was chosen to be the name of a new subdivision in the area!

Members of the Citrus Heights Historical Society (CHHS) share a love of local history. Some of us are fortunate enough to have careers that embrace our love of history. For others, it’s become a passion, hobby or a mission to share. Some do this by volunteering at historical sites, museums, cemeteries, or archives; others search for their roots; develop collections of treasures from the past; or focus on various aspects of cultural history.

Our mission is to preserve and promote the history of Citrus Heights and to give residents the opportunity to share their stories. Although the City of Citrus Heights was incorporated just in 1997, interest in the local history has brought together residents and nonresidents to learn more of the area history. CHHS is a volunteer organization that participates in and offers programs, and special events in our community and helps to raise awareness of historical locations such as the Rusch Home, Sylvan Cemetery and the Wheeler House and the need to preserve them for future generations.

Come and join us and make history!
